Celebrating 50 Years in the Downtown Los Angeles Jewelry District

Dec 10th 2019

In celebration of being in the Historic Los Angeles Jewelry District for 50 years, here's a look at the Icing On The Ring showroom and how it's changed in the last five decades.

The 1960s - 1970s

Master Crafstman, Garo, at European Jewelry Co.

In 1967, Garo Rupchian, Master Craftsman at Icing On The Ring, came to America from Armenia to begin a new chapter in his life. As a third-generation jeweler, he took what he learned from his father and grandfather to open European Jewelry Co. in the Historic Downtown Los Angeles Jewelry District in 1969.

During the '80s and '90s, Garo became well known in the industry for creating custom pieces of jewelry for upscale retail stores like Tiffany & Co. and Cartier. He quickly developed a loyal client base for couples seeking handcrafted engagement rings during this period. Garo's son, Vic, joined the European Jewelry Co. team in 1996 to apprentice under his father and help grow the company into a more retail-focused operation.

The new showroom and introduction of Icing On The Ring

After successfully growing the foundational business that Garo started along with his sons Vic and Raffi, who joined their team in 2001, they decided to rebrand their store. For two weeks, they remodeled their showroom to create a brand new look with a new name, and Icing On The Ring was opened. The intention was to establish a more modern experience for their bridal clientele to meet the needs of soon-to-be engaged couples.
